Radio Tool Construction:
To make your own set of radio removal tools for cheap, you'll need the following: (I got the brass from Orchard Supply)
  • about 2 feet of thin brass strips. (I think I used 1/4"x0.025", but I think you can go one size higher and one size thicker)
  • metal file
  • something to cut the strips
  • hack saw (optional)

The strips that I bought were less than $1 each. The strips were 12 inches long, so I bought two strips and cut them into 4 equal-length pieces. After you've cut them into 4 pieces, file a corner off of each piece. (click the pictures to get a larger view). As you can see, the angle is not that crucial, I think about 1/2 the width of the bar is a good amount.

You'll notice that one of the tools has a notch in it. I made the notch with the hack saw, but I found that it's not really necessary, although, it does help in pulling the radio out. If you have the time and patience, go ahead and make the notches in all 4 pieces.

If you would rather buy the tools, I found a place online that has them pretty cheap (I have no idea how well they work or how reliable this merchant is, I found them through a Y! search. I'm sure you can find the tools elsewhere.):
      AWS Wireless
Audi, Mercedes Radio Removal Tool Set [62187]
$6.95 DM-20-22 (you need to get 2 sets.)

Autotoys.com has a set of universal tools, but I think they are more expensive and you have to buy 4 of them.
